Billing Questions

Billing & Insurance

Thank you for choosing our emergency room for your medical needs. We realize billing can be confusing and overwhelming. Our goal is to answer all of your questions. If for some reason you do not see an answer here, please call us and our billing team will be happy to help.

Note: your bill from West Village ER may differ from a doctor or hospital bill because we are a freestanding ER.

West Village ER Billing Policy

We do accept self-pay in the form of cash, checks, and cards. For insurance questions you can view our page here. Your co-pay will be collected at the time of your visit for both out-of-pocket and insurance payments.

After your visit has been finalized, we will bill your insurance company per your insurance policy’s emergency room benefits. There will be two separate claims mailed to your insurance company, one will be the facility bill from the ER, and the other from the physician.

For any questions call our main line and ask for billing.

Worker’s Compensation

Texas employers that have coverage for workers’ comp through their employer are covered under the Texas Workers’ Compensation Act. For more information please visit this page.

 To file or dispute a claim, you can call 800-252-7031, and select option 1 to speak with a representative with the Texas Department of Insurance.

The Prudent Layperson Standard

For cases deemed emergent, TX state law requires your insurance company to pay for your emergency care, even if an emergency room is classified as out-of-network.

The state of Texas gives patients the use of a standard called the prudent layperson standard in deciding what is an emergency. If an insurance provider refuses to reimburse you for an ER visit, you can file a complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI).

Learn about this process by visiting the Texas Department of Insurance website: http://www.tdi.state.tx.us

Senate Bill 425 and House Bill 2041 are important to patients

According to guidelines set by the state of Texas, a freestanding ER is required to post the following at the facility and website.

  • The facility is a freestanding emergency medical care facility;
  • The facility charges rates comparable to a hospital emergency room, and may charge a facility fee;
  • A facility or a Physician providing medical care at the facility may be an out-of-network provider for the patient’s health benefit plan provider network;
  • A Physician providing medical care at the facility may bill separately from the facility for the medical care provided to a patient; and.
  • This facility is an out-of-network provider for all health benefit plans.
